About this deal

Thanks to the grid references, it is possible to play socially-distanced with one person managing the board. I’m sure there are more artistic minded folks that might see Hues and Cues as a more creative outlet (or even a test of color theory or something). For maximum enjoyment, I’m going to go out on a limb and recommend modifying the rules a bit, though.

The board is standard cardboard, wrapped with a vibrant sticker depicting the various colors in the game. Yellow scores two points for the piece inside the scoring frame and one point for the piece touching the scoring frame. For how simple the game and presentation are, I think the design elements coincide very nicely together, creating an appealing overall package. Mixed groups (men, women, adults, and children) of up to 10 people can play Hues and Cues at one time. After all players have had their turns as cue-giver (once or twice), the game ends and the player with the most points wins!

The players move their scoring markers forward spaces equal to the number of points that they scored. They will score points based on where their pieces are located in relation to the color for the round. Almost all of the reviews on Board Game Quest are from review copies of a game provided by the publisher.

In Hues and Cues, players are trying to guess a specific colour from a grid of 480 different colours based on one word and then two word clues. Players would be free to use these cues if they want but they could also just work as inspiration when choosing clues. You won’t want to play Hues and Cues under dim lighting conditions, because you’ll experience some eye strain. Players score based on how close they were to guessing the exact color, and the Cue-giver scores based on how many people were centered around their color. They started placing their first cones and the questions immediately arose — the green of an avocado on the outside or on the inside once you cut it open?

The rules below are some of the exact directions that came in the original packaging and will teach you how to play Hues And Cues. This is because the Cue-giver gets a point for every marker within the interior boundaries of the scoring rig. Right… So if I see an apple a little brighter than you do, then I also see that colour on the board brighter than you do. If the cue giver is happy with the number of pieces placed in the scoring zone from their first cue, they can choose to skip their second cue. But when a player hits the nail right on the head and correctly guesses the color exactly, everyone was thrilled!Looking around, the thing that catches my eye is one of the first things I purchased with my own money back in the 70s.

Based off of a wide spectrum of color, players will have a lot of fun trying to become the Hues And Cues champion. If that wasn’t enough, thanks to the grid references it is possible to play socially distanced with one person managing the board.Instead of playing to an arbitrary score milestone, I think this is the perfect amount of time to allot to the game. To back up the fact that this game is perfect for playing remotely, Hues and Cues was even nominated for the Golden Geek Best Zoomable Game award in 2020.
